DC beats South Cobb 31-6!

The Tigers brought their record to 2-0 on the season with a BIG win against the South Cobb Eagles!  Vowing to avenge last years' home loss, the Tigers came out fighting and had control for most of the game!

First half run through sign
The running back tandum of Juanya' Smith and TJ Beaird proved too much for the Eagles' defense during much of the game.  Although the game began as a defensive battle, it ended with the running back duo running all over the South Cobb D.  Smith ended the game with 118 yards on 19 carries with 3 touchdowns.  Beaird was equally impressive gaining 81 yards rushing on the night, but sacrificing himself multiple times blocking for his teammates.

Offense about to punch it in for a score!!

Not to be outdone offensively were Quarterback Jared Askew and Wide Receiver Justin Bridges.  Askew was 8 for 14 on the night with 140 yards passing and one touchdown.  Bridges led all receivers with 3 catches and 60 yards.

Askew and the offense ready to go

The defense stood strong all night long, with the lone Eagle points coming off an interception.  Shayne Carey led the way defensively with 11 total tackles.  Donovan Richardson and Dominick LaPene-Williams also showcased their skills by picking up an interception each.  LaPene-Williams had his second interception in as many games.

Defense ready to go hit
The Tigers were able to hold on to the lead for the duration of the game and improve to 2-0 on the season.  The celebration was short lived as the Tigers must quickly shift their focus to this week's tough game against Chattahoochee.  The Cougars came into Douglasville last year and left with a win, but the Tigers are preparing for a different outcome this year!

"Do Your Job"
Game information for Chattahoochee will be posted later in the week.

Welcome to the 2013 Football Season!!

Welcome to the 2013 Football Season!!!

2013 Douglas County High School Varsity Football Team

The Tigers have spent the summer working hard in the weight room to prepare for the 2013 season.  Summer workouts culminated with the 2nd annual "Big Cat" competition. The competition is made up of 7 different lifts or activities that the palyers have been working to improve during the offseason.  These lifts or activities are: Bench Press, Squat, Power Clean, Dips,  Pro Agility (5-10-5 Cone) Drill, 10 yard sprint, and 40 yard sprint.  The players are awarded points based on where they finish in the top 20 of each lift of activity.  At the conclusion of the competition, the player with the most points in each position is recognized as a BIG CAT for that position.  The player with the most points overall is named the TEAM BIG CAT WINNER!!

Travis Beaird- 2013 BIG CAT WINNER
With summer workouts complete, we would like to recognize a group of individuals known as the "Committed Cats".  These individuals proved their commitment to becoming better players by attending all summer workouts in 2013.
